What is Functional Nutrition?

What is Functional Nutrition?

A few years ago, when I was first diagnosed with Hashimoto’s I started down the research rabbit hole online, and started seeing words like “functional,” “holistic,” “naturopathic,” and “integrative” medicine and nutrition. It was not until I started an online program with a functional medicine doctor and a functional nutritionist that I really understood what functional nutrition was.

Functional nutrition is a more comprehensive approach to diet and lifestyle. In the functional nutrition world, we look at the body, not just the symptoms you might be experiencing or a diagnosis. The strategy is to look at the big picture of everyone’s health, lifestyle, environmental toxin exposure, antibiotic use and more to help fill the gap in conventional healthcare that will just treat the symptoms.

Functional nutrition will not follow one specific diet, instead the goal is to achieve balance in the body, and therefore each approach is tailored to each individual and their healthcare needs. As a functional nutrition coach, I am here to help you dig down to find the root cause of your symptoms and get you back to your best and most optimal health. While I cannot diagnose, I can help identify deficiencies that may need to be causing issues and can be addressed using food as medicine, and the occasional help of supplements.

Do you find yourself dragging with fatigue and you cannot figure out why? Do you find yourself not sleeping through the night and nothing helps? Ladies, do you have hot flashes? None of these issues is “normal” or part of aging as the conventional healthcare world will lead you to believe.

Are you ready to gain your energy back, rid your body of those aches and pains, and get more restful sleep? If so, I am ready to collaborate with you.
